This section contains information on employment, working hours and earnings.

The Annual Business Inquiry is a business survey carried out by the Office for National Statistics. Results include analyses of employees in employment. More information is available below.

The Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) provides information about the levels, distribution and make-up of earnings and hours paid for employees in all industries and occupations. Data for Hertfordshire from ASHE is available below.

Results on Hours worked from the 2001 Census are available on hertsdirect.org and are available by selecting the link entitled Hours worked results from the 2001 census (on the right hand side of the screen).

A 'key worker' is a worker in one of the groups listed below who can get help to buy their first home or to move into a family home. Information about key workers is available below.

Communities and Local Government (CLG) produce two tables on housing affordability from 1997 to 2007:

  • Table 576: Ratio of lower quartile house price to lower quartile income by district
  • Table 577: Ratio of median house price to median income by district
